Department of Chemistry & Biomolecular Sciences

The Department of Chemistry and Biomolecular Sciences (CBMS) was established in 2005 when academic staff working in molecular and cell biology in the Department of Biological Sciences teamed up with the existing Chemistry Department. CBMS is now part of the Faculty of Science and has around 20 academic staff and 60 higher degree research students making us one of the most research-intensive departments on campus. The current CBMS staff are listed below.

The Department hosts the Macquarie University Centre for Analytical Biotechnology (MUCAB) and the Australian Proteome Analysis Facility (APAF)which provides a large range of bioanalytical services. CBMS also incorporates a number of research centres including the Cooperative Research Centre for Environmental Biotechnology (EBCRC) and the Grain Foods Cooperative Research Centre and is involved with a number of industrial partners such as FLUOROtechnics, Microbial Screening Technologies, Proteome Systems Minomic and Novogen.

The Department is located in buildings F7B and E8C, adjacent to the University's Research Park. It is a short walk to the Macquarie Shopping Centre and the new train station opening in 2009.
