Profile for Associate Professor Joanne Jamie

Research Interests

Bio-organic and medicinal chemistry

  • Working in partnership with Indigenous people on traditional medicinal plant knowledge for cultural preservation and drug discovery.
  • Understanding the structure, function and inhibition of the medicinally important human enzyme indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase to rationally develop potent inhibitors.
  • Understanding age-related nuclear cataract and human lens chemistry using synthesis and biological models.

Chemical education

  • Exploring the Indigenous Science Education Program to understand the key factors for effective engagement of Indigenous students in science.
